FILICUDI

The little island of Filicudi takes its name froma the greek “Phoinicussa”  that  means the fern. On the island you can find the famous "Fossa Felci" an extinct volcano, where in the crater it is hosted a rich vegetation. The legend wants that on the 24th of June, the day dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. If you go in the woods of the island and stay awake keeping your eyes always on a fern at dawn you may see growing a magic flower: Saint John's flower. This flower has magical properties and was attractive to both the devil and to the witches. Sicilians, in fact, used to call Filicudi "Devil's Island " or "Witches Island".
